We’re proud to be a breath of fresh air in the academic world – a place where everyone gets the support they need to achieve their best.
We’re always discovering. We don’t fit the mould, we break it. Just as the world keeps moving, so do we.
We’re closely involved with our local community and we take our ideas into the global marketplace. We partner with business, industry and government to set the course for a better future. And we educate and transform the lives of our students to help them achieve their potential.
We stand out, not just in the UK but in the world. We excel in research areas from cosmology and astrophysics to cyber security, forensics and sport science.
Since the first day we opened our doors, we've looked towards the future. And we're here to help you shape it.
You generally need IELTS 6.5 overall with no component below 5.5 to show you can study in English. Some courses require slightly higher minimums, and previous degrees from English-speaking universities or countries.
You need a UK second-class honours bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a related subject. You’ll also write a short research proposal, and you may be invited to an interview. Equivalent professional experience can sometimes be considered.
It’s a 1-year full-time (or 2-year part-time) Master of Research focused on independent research training and a major research project. You’ll do a Research Preparation & Development module and a 120-credit Research Project, tailored to your creative field, leading to a thesis, creative work, or both. The course builds research skills and prepares you for careers or further study (like a PhD).

We're here whenever you need us, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
