De Montfort University

De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) is a dynamic institution with a long and vibrant history of improving people’s lives through education.  Originally founded as the Leicester School of Art in 1870, the university has evolved through many incarnations including the Leicester Colleges of Art and Technology and Leicester Polytechnic.

Leicester Polytechnic officially became De Montfort University on 26 June 1992. The name was chosen to reflect the university’s long association with Leicester by commemorating the celebrated Simon de Montfort, Earl of Leicester, a crucial figure in medieval history who established the first parliament in 1265.

Ielts

To be eligible for a place at DMUIC, you must satisfy our standard English Language requirements. Our courses necessitate an IELTS score of 5.5 or its equivalent, with a minimum of 5.5 in each component.  If you don't meet these English Language requirements, we have an alternative option available. You can enroll in a pre-sessional English course, which must be completed just before you begin the first/second stage of your chosen program:

  • If you have an IELTS score of 5.5 but have any component below 5.5, you will be offered a six-week pre-sessional English course that will be taken just before your program commences.
  • If your IELTS score is 5.0, with no component below 4.5, you will be offered a six-week pre-sessional English course before starting your program.
  • For those with an IELTS score of 4.5, with no component below 4.0, a twelve-week pre-sessional English course will be provided, also to be completed before your program starts.
