IELTS: Overall 7.0, with 7.0 in writing and minimum 6.0 in other sections

Bachelor’s degree: Minimum 2:1 (upper second class) or equivalent

Master’s degree: In a relevant subject

Research proposal: Required (important part of application)

References: Usually 2 referees

Experience: Relevant academic/professional experience may help 

Type: Research degree (MPhil → upgrade to PhD)

Duration: 2–4 years (full-time) / 3–7 years (part-time)

Focus: Independent research in journalism (e.g., ethics, media law, digital journalism, globalisation)
